Fresh‑up Economics

Implementation period

01.11.2019 - 31.10.2021

Project objective

The project aims to prepare information and educational materials for teachers for self‑education (Edu‑kit) that will help them acquire competences in promoting socio‑economic learning in their schools. The project also aims to connect the community of economists and teachers (adult educators) by developing a Europe‑wide educational platform on which materials helping to overcome fear of economics will be placed.

The materials developed within the project will provide teachers with the possibility of dialogue and multiple perspectives through:

  • a microeconomic and macroeconomic approach,
  • comparison of different economic schools (neoclassical, Keynesian, others),
  • social, ethical and political influences shaping and framing economic thinking.

The project also aims to support the European dimension of economics and interculturality through the exchange of information in an international partnership of seven countries.

Planned activities

Creation of a multilingual Edu‑kit online platform as a self‑education curriculum for adult educators in the field of socio‑economic education in Europe, consisting of:

    • information and discussion on various economic topics,
    • teaching inspirations and tools for training purposes,
    • a glossary of key economic terms described in relation to different economic approaches.
  1. All educational materials will be available in seven language versions of the project partners and will cover such topics as:
    • Climate change and the economy
    • Inequality, fairness and diversity: inequalities within countries and between countries (EU)
    • Strengthening women’s economic position through entrepreneurship education
    • Feminist economics
    • The origins of money and debt
    • How to obtain financing for enterprises: the difference between stakeholder and shareholder value in Europe
    • The euro area
    • Public goods and social care
    • Economic growth as the basis of a market economy
    • Debt in the economy and the case of the debt crisis in Ireland: challenges and solutions
    • The impact of tax avoidance
    • Perspectives for the future of Europe: competition or cooperation?
    • Migration and the economy: do migrants take jobs away from others?
    • Economic strategies for “managing” crises: austerity programmes or government investment programmes?
    • Introduction to economic schools: the neoclassical paradigm, Keynesianism, post‑Keynesianism, monetarism, etc.
  1. Creation of educational materials (PowerPoint presentations of the project, films, written materials) provided by each of the partners.
  2. Creation of a multilingual project website for dissemination and information about the project’s aims, assumptions, partners, economic education, etc.
  3. Organisation of events aimed at disseminating the project results by the partner organisations.
  4. Creation of a publication containing all the articles in a single PDF file, which can be downloaded free‑of‑charge and used.
