CTApp: Teaching Students Computational Thinking Through a Mobile Application

Implementation period

01.09.2020 - 31.08.2023

Project objective

The aim of the project is to develop and disseminate across Europe a high‑quality mobile game that combines the concepts of computational thinking (CT) and serious games.

Computational thinking is a problem‑solving method that uses analysis and computational algorithms similar to those used by computers. The goal of serious games goes beyond entertainment: players solve real‑life problems, for example in education, health, management or spatial planning. Serious games also include training simulators and applications that address important social issues.

Implementing these teaching methods and ways of thinking in primary‑school education will help teachers support students’ competences and skills in an innovative and engaging way.

Target groups

The project is designed for two main groups of users:

  • Primary‑school pupils aged 12–18 from Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom, who will use the project’s solutions in their learning.
  • Primary‑school teachers and educational‑institution management staff from all partner countries, who will learn about new educational tools and integrate them into daily teaching practice.

Project results

  • A computer (mobile) game that helps pupils learn how to use computational thinking (CT) to solve problems.
  • Training materials for primary‑school teachers to help them implement the new teaching method and use the game in the classroom.
