Palliative E‑Care

Project objective

The project aims to improve the quality of palliative care provided.

The means to achieve this will be an innovative online platform offering educational materials such as instructional videos, interactive courses and training materials created for adults by a team of specialists from across Europe. Thanks to these courses, the quality of palliative care offered to patients, and consequently their quality of life, will increase significantly.

Planned activities

The educational materials prepared within the project will be:

A training programme with a list of modules, training objectives and information regarding the duration of the course. The programme will be available online and will be translated into the national languages of the project partners.

Training modules developed by professional and specialist medical staff:

  • Module 1: Patient care (care of bedsores or surgical wounds)
  • Module 2: Care for patients with a catheter
  • Module 3: Breathing problems
  • Module 4: Exercises and physiotherapy in bed
  • Module 5: Use of prescription and other medicines
  • Module 6: Crisis management at home
  • Module 7: Patient self‑care
  • Module 8: Approach to Alzheimer’s disease – patient with dementia
  • Module 9: Patient assessment (monitoring blood pressure, temperature, pulse and breathing, etc.)
  • Module 10: Pain management
  • Module 11: Communication with the patient
  • Module 12: Communication with medical institutions
  • Module 13: Management of psychological problems
  • Module 14: Patients’ rights and the rights of their relatives
  • Module 15: Nutrition
  • Module 16: The effects of the COVID‑19 pandemic in the context of palliative care

After completion of the training, participants will have the possibility to obtain a certificate.

A digital platform on which all training materials will be placed, freely available to every adult. Participants will be able to check their knowledge from any place and at any time, provided they have access to the Internet. Online communication with the trainer will also be ensured. The platform will be available in five language versions.

Educational videos presenting the procedures for performing specialist tasks related to palliative care. During the video trainings medical terminology will be used, but the whole training will be conducted in simple and comprehensible language.

A manual for teachers, which will serve as a guide for trainers and will contain:

  • information on how to use the digital platform,
  • methods of assessment and measurement in education,
  • an introduction to the educational materials,
  • information on the duration of the training programme,
  • identification of the expected achievements.

A manual for course participants – a guide for training participants. The main topics it will cover are:

  • general information about the course/programme,
  • requirements for registration,
  • the aim of the course/programme,
  • short information on how to use the digital platform (how to open an account, how to register and obtain a password, etc.),
  • information about the certificate.

In order to disseminate the project results, the project partners will organise a series of events informing the public, including through publications, educational activities, organisation of congresses, seminars, conferences and other events at local, national and international level.

Target groups

The project is addressed to:

  • relatives of patients providing palliative care at home who do not have sufficient specialist knowledge on this topic.
  • employees of centres providing social and palliative care who are often underqualified and do not have sufficient medical knowledge.
  • hospice staff who will have the opportunity to update their practical knowledge and improve their professional qualifications.
