International students’ Action for Adapting Cross‑Cultural activities

Implementation period

01.12.2020 - 31.11.2022

Project objective

The aim of the project is to create a cooperation network of universities, develop a common support model for international students and prepare practical tools that will help them adapt to a new cultural environment. The project will strengthen the international character of universities in countries less attractive to international students by drawing on the experience of more attractive countries.

Target groups

The project is addressed to:

  • international students and other higher education students,
  • lecturers teaching international students,
  • coordinators of mobility programmes at universities,
  • other university staff working with students from other countries.

Project results

  1. A support model for international students, developed in cooperation with target‑group representatives, based on good practices identified in partner countries. The model will take into account three aspects of cross‑cultural adaptation:

A1. the university perspective: needs, challenges, good practices,
A2. the perspective of domestic students,
A3. the perspective of international students.

  1. A “Do’s and Don’ts” handbook for university staff working with international students, containing practical guidelines on behaviour and procedures – an international “savoir‑vivre” for academic lecturers, mobility‑programme coordinators and administrative staff. The handbook will be prepared in an accessible format and will be designed to be usable by any higher education institution.
  2. A Welcome Guide for international students responding to the needs identified in the project. It will be prepared based on numerous meetings with new international students, domestic students and academic staff.
  3. Interactive materials – edugraphics for students and university staff. As a supplement to the handbooks and guides, interactive graphics will be developed and placed on the project website. Visual presentation of useful information for students and staff will increase the functionality of the materials, including mobile‑device usability.
