On 26 September, WSEI Uniersity held its first-ever public doctoral defences in the field of technical computer science and telecommunications.
- This is a landmark moment in the academic and scientific development of WSEI Univesity and a demonstration of its institutional maturity - emphasises Dr hab. Eng. Tomasz Rymarczyk, Professor at WSEI Univesity, Director of the Doctoral School and the Institute of Computer Science and Innovative Technologies, who supervised all the doctoral dissertations. Assistant supervisors were PhD. Eng. Dariusz Wójcik and PhD. Eng. Grzegorz Kłosowski.
The following candidates were awarded the degree of Doctor of Science:
- As part of my doctoral research, I developed a system for detecting people in rooms that combines radiographic tomography with an RGB camera using data fusion - said Michał Maj immediately after his defence. - I feel immense satisfaction and gratitude; it was an excellent, substantive discussion, and the defence was completed with distinction.
When asked about his experience in the doctoral programme, he said: - It was very positive. The programme was demanding but highly developmental, with plenty of practical research work and support from the supervisors, allowing me to link laboratory work with real-world applications. WSEI University is an excellent choice due to its mentoring, flexibility, and research facilities. Moreover, it provides an ideal environment for interdisciplinary projects and collaboration with industry. My future scientific plans involve publications, further development of the system - including automatic calibration, depth data, edge computing, testing in new environments, and implementation work.
The doctoral dissertations focused on topics such as artificial intelligence, image analysis, numerical methods, and impedance, ultrasound, and radiographic tomography, with applications in industrial diagnostics and location detection.
The defences were attended by numerous invited guests, including reviewers and professors from academic centres across Poland. Their professional engagement and high-level reviews contributed significantly to ensuring the quality of the promotion process and the thorough assessment of the doctoral candidates’ achievements.
- Awarding doctoral degrees in engineering and technical sciences is crucial for the further development of the scientific potential of the of WSEI University. They enhance the quality of research and teaching in modern information technologies and help build a strong, interdisciplinary research team in the region - says Prof. Rymarczyk.
- This event represents not only the individual success of the doctoral candidates but also an important step in establishing a recognised and ambitious Doctoral School at our University - emphasises Mgr Teresa Bogacka, President of the WSEI University.
We warmly congratulate the new doctors and wish them continued success in their scientific and professional careers.
