This is a place that will enable students of the University to gain experience in creating computer games, develop practical skills and pursue their passions. On Wednesday,WSEI University opened the Pyramid Games Computer Graphics and Game Development Laboratory.
- It is very important to constantly keep up with the demands of the market. Science does not stand still, but is constantly evolving, especially in the IT market. To keep up, we would have to launch a new laboratory and implement new systems every six months, says Teresa Bogacka, PhD h.c., President of WSEI University - As a modern university, we move with the Times.
As Jacek Wyszyński, CEO of Pyramid Games, emphasises, such a place was sorely needed in Lublin: - It's a bit of a dream come true and the result of many years of effort to create an opportunity in our city to train game developers in the form of a new field of study – Computer Game Development, offered by WSEI University. As a Lublin-based company, we have been operating in this market for 15 years. When we started, we also wanted to be able to study in a field such as game development, but there were no such opportunities in this city. Now, thanks to our cooperation with WSEI University, this opportunity exists. As part of this cooperation, we are opening the Pyramid Games Laboratory and we hope that more and more talented game developers, programmers, graphic designers and animators will be trained here in Lublin. This is a very important initiative and a very important day for us - emphasised President Wyszyński.
- Many young people are fascinated by the creative world, hence the idea to launch a programme such as Computer Game Development, Graphics and Interactive Technologies. We are implementing it in cooperation with experts from the gaming industry - Pyramid Games and PoligonStudio. After the first recruitment, we have over 40 students - says PhD Michalina Gryniewicz-Jaworska, Professor at WSEI University, Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Information Technology. She adds: - The study programme is dedicated to the rapidly growing Game Dev industry. Our future engineers will be experts in Graphics and Level Design as well as Computer Game Programming. The Laboratory we opened today is a natural complement to this field of study. I am convinced that it will become a place where inspiring projects will be created, of which Lublin will be proud.
The grand opening of the Laboratory was attended by the University Authorities, the President of Pyramid Games and, on behalf of the Lublin City Authorities, Oliwia Wójtowicz from the Strategy and Investor Relations Department.
