He volunteers, helps refugees and flood victims, and climbs mountain peaks with people with disabilities. Henryk Waligórski, a second-year Nursing student, has been named the winner of our “Uncovering the Stars of WSEI University” contest. The jury recognized his commitment in the Social Activity category.
As a volunteer, charity worker, and caregiver for people with disabilities, he has been actively providing help where it’s needed most for many years. Privately, he is a husband and a father of two sons – his family is his greatest support.
Henryk began his journey of social service in 2011, helping organize concerts at the Poznań Philharmonic. He then spent seven years working with the Bury Bear Community Foundation, supporting individuals with disabilities. Since 2020, he has been involved with the Polish Red Cross Humanitarian Aid Group in Lublin, where, as a Senior Humanitarian Aid Specialist, he has taken part in numerous missions – from assisting Ukrainian refugees and evacuating institutions to participating in rescue and military drills. He also supported flood victims in Stronie Śląskie, for which his team received multiple acknowledgments, and their leader was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit.
For several years, he has also been involved with the Sherpas of Hope Foundation, which helps people with disabilities reach mountain summits. He takes part in expeditions, organizes training sessions, and shares his experience with new volunteers. It is through such projects - filled with effort, cooperation, and emotion – that he truly feels the impact of his actions.
- I don’t consider myself a hero. I’m just an ordinary person trying to do something good - as much as I can. My work, my studies, social activities, and family life form one cohesive whole,- says Henryk Waligórski.
He is also a Level III honorary blood donor, conducts first aid workshops, and promotes volunteering among children and youth. His story is a shining example of how one can combine education, passion, and service to others.
- I believe real change starts with small gestures, and that working together with humility and heart can truly change the world. That’s why I wear the Red Cross emblem with pride, study Nursing with satisfaction, and look at my family with love - they have always been my greatest strength,- concludes the contest winner.
